Protect Your Teeth from Damage –  Get a Night Guard!

Are you grinding your teeth at night? You might be, but aren’t aware of it. Teeth grinding often occurs when you sleep. It causes damage to your teeth (that’s costly to repair), disrupts your sleep, and affects your overall health.  Compared to the costs of cosmetic or restorative dental treatments, a night guard is a cost effective way to protect your teeth, and maintain your health.

What is a Night Guard & How Does It Help?

What are night guards? Much like a  retainer, these two small pieces of plastic are custom made to comfortably fit over your teeth, while you sleep. They put a barrier between your teeth, help prevent your tooth enamel from wearing down, and can also help to reduce the tension in your jaw muscles. Unlike store bought night guards, that are boil and bite, Dr. Beffa will first take an impression of your teeth (upper and lower) from which a plaster cast will be created to make a custom night guard to your exact fit.

Why do people grind their teeth? Chronic teeth grinding (aka Bruxism) can happen throughout the day because of anxiety or stress, but it usually occurs during sleep, due to an abnormal bite, crooked or missing teeth, or from a sleep disorder like sleep apnea.

Benefits of Custom Made Dental Night Guards

  • Comfort – Having a custom night guard is vital to insuring that they fit securely, and comfortably over your teeth, so that you’ll continue to use them every night.
  • More Protection -Because of the materials we use are more durable, your custom designed night guard will also offer your teeth additional protection.
  • Adjustments – If your night guard requires adjustments from time to time, Dr. Beffa can modify them for you.
